Build in safety!

Every three days, there is a fatal accident on construction sites in Poland. Despite technological progress and strict regulations on work safety, construction remains one of the most hazardous sectors of the national economy. Inspections by labour inspectors indicate the following factors as the causes of this situation: low level of knowledge on occupational safety and health, both among employees and employers, cutting the costs of investments at the expense of safety, and finally – incomprehension of the objectives related to conducting risk assessment. Therefore, in the year 2004 the National Labour Inspectorate launched an informational-promotional campaign Work safety in construction, and – due to the extent of the problem – it is being continued this year. In 2005, similar actions are conducted in the remaining 9 new EU Member States – under the auspices of the Senior Labour Inspectors’ Committee (SLIC).

The objective of the campaign Work safety in construction is to raise interest in the issue of occupational risk assessment, promote actions connected with developing Occupational Safety and Health Plans, as well as eliminate risks related to: falls from heights, tools falling from heights, and use of hazardous machinery and equipment. We motivate employers and employees from the construction sector to adopt an active and committed approach to work safety.

Our campaign is addressed, first of all, to employers and persons responsible for organising work: investors, site managers, foremen. They are invited to participate in the preventive programme for small and medium construction firms, which will enable them to adapt their enterprises to the existing regulations and make the work on sites safer.

We offer them free training, advice, informational and guidance materials. And all of these because we care for the improvement of safety standards on construction sites in Poland!

On this website, you will find, among others: complete versions of the NLI’s informational and training publications, detailed information on the campaign, current news on its progress. Please feel free to ask questions and share your comments with us!
