EU-OSHA Anniversary in Bilbao
On 5 June 2019 at the University of Deusto in Bilbao a conference was held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA). The National Labour Inspectorate was represented by Wiesław Łyszczek, the Chief Labour Inspector. The event was also attended by Iwona Hadacz, the Deputy Director of the Personnel and Training Department at the Chief Labour Inspectorate, and Nina Dulna from the International Cooperation Unit at the CLI.
The conference, which consisted of two discussion panels, was devoted to the role of EU-OSHA as a permanent partner in the ever changing world of labour. The first discussion panel was attended, amongst others, by Christa Sedlatschek (the executive director of the agency), former directors and board members of the agency, and the representatives of the EU-OSHA national focal points. They presented the historical context underlying the foundation of the agency which was established by the founding regulation of the European Parliament and Council, and discussed their experiences in the area of taking actions towards healthier and safer workplaces. The second panel was attended by the representatives of the European Commission, the European Parliament, and the social partners, who discussed the future role of EU-OSHA and the challenges connected with technological progress, demographic and economic changes.
